In celebration of the 4th anniversary of our YouTube Channel, Watch The World, we collaborated with two watch brands to launch our crossover timepieces!
One of the models is “Blue Planet”, which is the first ever watch designed and manufactured in China to receive the GPHG Challenge Watch Prize. This crossover watch, Watch The World x Blue Planet, is limited to 100 pieces.
Watch The World decided to choose "Blue Planet" for this crossover because of its fascinating dial design and the bird's-eye view of the Eastern Hemisphere. Although it is not the entire earth, it cleverly echoes the aspirations of Watch The World - with our original intention of sharing watch culture, through the aesthetics of time to look at the world.
To highlight the uniqueness of this limited edition piece, the hour and minute rims on the dial are plated with the light rose gold color of the Watch The World logo; the serial number of each watch starts with 852, emphasizing the origin of this crossover - Hong Kong; and "Limited Edition 1 of 100" is inscribed on its transparent case back.
The watch is made of recycled titanium, and the dial is micro-engraved with realistic topography, showing nature such as land, mountains and oceans. Its exclusive "asynchronous tracking" movement design changes the movement gear ratio for allowing the hour rim to rotate 30° and the minute rim to rotate 390°, creating a function that can indicate the hour and minutes at one point, completely subverting the traditional method of time reading.
Noel Wong, the founder of Watch The World, said: "The way the Blue Planet expresses time is very exceptional and unconventional, and it immediately caught my attention and attracted my eyes. I chose it as one of my favorites and added in elements of Watch The World and Hong Kong to create a watch with a story. It is a great pleasure to share it with like-minded people!"
"Blue Planet" is a product of CIGA Design based in Shenzhen. Its founder, Mr. Zhang Jianmin, is a pioneer in Chinese industrial design. He founded CIGA Design in 2016 after 24 years in the design industry.
The "Blue Planet" watch won the Challenge Watch Prize at the 2021 Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève, the first-ever Chinese watch to win this award.
